Local Infomation

Lakenheath is a small friendly village in the heart of east anglia. It was once the home of a large saxon settlement in about 400 ad, many remains have been discovered on the air base just outside the village.

Lakenheath Village grew up around it's ancient church and little has changed since then. The only major impact on the area has been the creation of raf lakenheath in the 1960's, and with it the influx of service personnel & their families, which adds to the diversity of the village.

Surrounded by the fens, there are many areas of interest for you to visit within a short distance.

For example newmarket, just 20 min away is the horse racing capital of east anglia. Historic bury st edmunds where you can visit the abbey ruins by the river, dating back to the 6th century. Ely cathedral is also only 30 minutes away with breath taking views of the surrounding fens. You can also catch the train in ely to head further a field. If shopping and night life are your thing then why not travel 30 min along the a14 to the university city of cambridge.

For those that prefer to walk lakenheath also boasts its own warren that was once used for gravel extraction but is now home to some rare species of plants, or why not head to our local RSPB reserve that is also home to some rare bird species.

The Lakenheath Hotel is with in 5 miles from thetford Golf Course, also located close to the Rod & Gun club and Elveden Forest.
